It is believed that the modern Naina Devi Temple at the northern end of the lake is the spot where her eye fell, after Vishnu chopped up her body and scattered it all over to stop Shiva's cosmic dance of destruction. Enjoy a rowboat or pedal boat ride around the lake or hire a yacht from the Nainital Boat Club. Not just the lake, there's much to do on the promenade too. Dorothy's Seat : Also known as Tiffin's Top, it derives its name from of an English lady Mrs. Kellet Dorothy, who was killed in an air crash. Tiffin Top is at a short walk of about 4 km from the lake and provides an excellent view of the Himalayas and the city. Hanumangarh Temple and St. John Church : Dedicated to Lord Hanuman, this temple is known for its fabulous sunset views. Also ensure that you visit one of the oldest buildings of Nainital, St. John Church, built by the British. Land's End : About 4 km from the town, Land's End is known for its magnificent view of the plains and the beautiful Khurpa Tal surrounded by the village and dense pine forests. Gurney House : Located atop Ayarpatta Hill, Gurney House, former home of Jim Corbett is located amidst thick oak, fir, deodar, pine and rhododendron. Today it is a museum of Corbett memorabilia. Nainital Zoo : Home to high altitude species of animals, this zoo is extremely well-maintained.
